Accountabilities
The Senior Software Engineer will design, develop, and maintain backend systems while ensuring reliability, scalability, and operational excellence. The role requires strong ownership of services throughout their lifecycle, from implementation to production support, while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Lead backend development by designing, building, and maintaining server-side applications and services.
- Own services end-to-end, including deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement in production environments.
- Develop reliable distributed systems and APIs that support secure and scalable user experiences.
- Collaborate with cloud infrastructure teams to improve production environments, monitoring, alerting, and operational reliability.
- Participate in on-call rotations to investigate incidents, resolve production issues, and maintain service availability.
- Manage releases, dependency updates, bug fixes, and support requests to ensure system health and performance.
- Partner with frontend engineers, product managers, platform teams, and other stakeholders to align technical solutions with business needs.
- Contribute to API design, backend architecture decisions, and data contract development.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain high standards for code quality, security, and reliability.
- Apply AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully to improve engineering efficiency and software quality.
- Support security and privacy reviews to ensure compliance with data protection standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical improvements, engineering practices, and team growth.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is an experienced backend engineer with strong cloud expertise, a passion for reliable systems, and a proven ability to take ownership of production services. They should demonstrate strong technical judgment, collaboration skills, and the ability to deliver high-quality solutions in complex environments.
- 4+ years of professional software development experience focused on backend engineering.
- Strong experience building backend services using Python, TypeScript/Node.js, Rust, or similar technologies.
- Experience designing, developing, and maintaining scalable server-side applications.
- Strong PostgreSQL expertise, including relational schema design, migrations, and SQL query optimization.
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Docker-based deployment pipelines, and cloud operations.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Sentry, Grafana, Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry.
- Strong understanding of DevOps practices and confidence operating production systems independently.
- Experience participating in on-call rotations and resolving production incidents.
- Ability to make sound technical decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and work effectively in ambiguous situations.
- Strong commitment to software quality, reliability, testing, and continuous improvement.
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to engineering best practices.
- Familiarity with performance testing, Terraform, Kubernetes, Django, or infrastructure-as-code tools is an advantage.
- Experience contributing to open-source projects or personal engineering initiatives is a plus.
