As an Engineering Manager, Ads, you will lead a team of software engineers building privacy-focused advertising technologies that support innovative digital experiences. You will oversee the development of scalable backend systems, partner integrations, experimentation capabilities, and product-facing solutions while balancing technical excellence with user trust. This role offers the opportunity to shape engineering strategy, mentor talented developers, and collaborate across product, data, privacy, policy, and business teams. You will play a key role in delivering reliable and impactful solutions within a complex, evolving technology environment. Accountabilities:
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of software engineers, helping team members grow their technical skills, impact, and career development.
- Guide the delivery of advertising technology initiatives, including backend services, partner integrations, experimentation platforms, measurement capabilities, reliability improvements, and product integrations.
- Partner closely with product managers and cross-functional stakeholders to navigate complex technical decisions involving user privacy, data practices, business objectives, and product requirements.
- Ensure engineering solutions are scalable, maintainable, secure, reliable, and aligned with high standards for quality and user experience.
- Establish effective team processes, encourage clear communication, and create an environment where engineers can perform at their best.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and team growth initiatives to strengthen engineering capabilities over time.
- Balance short-term execution priorities with long-term technical sustainability and organizational goals.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years of experience managing engineering teams.
- Proven experience leading teams that successfully deliver production software in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and people management skills, with the ability to support engineers across different experience levels and backgrounds.
- Solid understanding of modern software development practices, including planning, prioritization, issue management, and delivery workflows.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with product teams, business stakeholders, and technical partners to achieve shared objectives.
- Strong judgment and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make thoughtful decisions in ambiguous situations.
- Experience working in distributed and asynchronous environments.
- Familiarity with areas such as advertising platforms, search, recommendations, marketplaces, browser technologies, client platforms, or other privacy-sensitive products is an asset.
- Ability to quickly understand complex technical domains where user trust, privacy considerations, and business outcomes must be carefully balanced.
